I’ve been a fashion designer for 5 years now. I have showcased a collection during New York Fashion Week, been published in a number of online and print publications around the world, and featured in more fashion shows than I can count. However nothing prepared me for the idea of completing my first tuxedo for something as huge as my son’s senior prom. There is already the pressure of making sure that night is something your child remembers forever, but now I had the added twist that either he will remember it as epic or an epic fail. Thankfully “God is Good” lol and with the aid of my mother (who is a seamstress and had nooooo idea how to even begin either lol) we pulled it off.
My son asked me 6 months ago to do it and I said no! However after searching for the perfect tux with no luck, I decided to give it a try. So with two weeks to complete it, we did everything from purchasing the fabric, finding a pattern for the structure base (I never follow patterns “as is”) and completing the suit from beginning to end.
